Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying

Qualification Overview

This qualification reflects the trade qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver who may have responsibility for undertaking heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, industrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions.

Occupational titles could include:

• Bricklayer
• Blocklayer
• Paver.

The bricklaying, blocklaying and paving industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Who can Enrol?

The target group for this qualification includes individuals aged 18 years and over who are seeking to commence or develop skills in the bricklaying and blocklaying trade within the residential and commercial construction industry. 

Recommended Training Pathways

Pathways into the qualification

Individuals may enter CPC33020 Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying with limited or no vocational experience and without a lower-level qualification.

Recommended Pathways from the qualification

Upon successful completion of the CPC33020 Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying, individuals may undertake further study in higher-level qualifications, such as Certificate IV or Diploma programs in Building and Construction or Civil Construction, to enhance skills and career opportunities within the construction industry.

Employment Pathways from the Qualification

This qualification prepares students to enter residential and commercial construction industry occupations such as:

• Bricklayer
• Blocklayer
• Paver

Academic Requirement
No prior academic requirements apply for this qualification; however, Glen Institute requires successful completion of Australian Equivalent Year 12 qualification or higher.

Age Requirement
All applicants must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy Requirement
Applicants will be required to demonstrate their LLN Proficiency and Digital Literacy capabilities &/or complete an LLN and Digital literacy test prior to the commencement of the course as per the Glen Institute Pre-training & LLN and Digital Literacy Policy & Procedure. Glen Institute uses the platforms of LLN Robot and Jotform for LLN Proficiency and Digital Literacy test respectively.

Course Specific Requirements

• The full set of uniforms, featuring the Glen Institute logo, are supplied by Glen Institute and must be purchased directly from the Institute. Measurements will be taken during Orientation.

• Due to the physical and practical nature of this course, students must be physically able to perform assessment tasks in a Bricklaying and Blocklaying workshop and/or simulated environment. Therefore, students enrolling in this course is required to undertake a Pre-Course Physical Examination during Orientation. This assessment assists trainers and Student Support Staff in identifying any physical requirements and in providing appropriate support to ensure safe and successful participation in the course.

Applicants should have basic computer and MS Office skills (Word, Excel and Power Point). Applicants should be in possession of their personal computer (the minimum configuration should be Intel Core i3 (sixth generation or newer) or equivalent.
